Half-Baked Haiti Charities and Contrivance. You decide the Good. Bad. Or just Well Meaning.

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing, because he could only do a little.” (Edmund Burke)

Helping Haiti

I feel deeply for the people of Haiti. One way you can help them is by texting YELE to 501 501 and donate $5 US. Or visit http://www.yele.org. I think we often take the biggest or most recent disaster and forget about our back door, places we can help (and I don't mean by throwing cash at other people and trusting they will use it properly), or even other countries that still need help (if you think the US doesn't need your help, which is not true by the way).

Drama with Charity

With this recent disaster their has been a lot of scrutiny on many well-meaning people. Media and you, twitter friends, can blow so many things out of proportion and not project enough attention on other things that really need it. I'll let you be the judge of which is which.

Wyclef Jean Charity and Critics

Wyclef Jean is spending his Saturday responding to critics alleging that his Yele Haiti Foundation has administrative expenses that exceed those of other charities.

The popular musician’s very public efforts to raise funds for the Yele Haiti Foundation have come under scrutiny of late, especially following a piece by the Washington Post that discusses reports made by the Smoking Gun. -- From Mashable

Hilton Rewards Solicits Charity

Hilton HHonors® has partnered with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to help victims affected by the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. If you would like to support the effort we have arranged for HHonors members to be able to donate points to support relief efforts.
For every 10,000 points you donate, we'll send US$25 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Is it in poor taste to ask customers to donate rewards points to charity?(poll
