The Worlds MOST Pressing Issues. The Solution.

What do you think are the worlds most pressing issues? What are the things you wish where different, not just in the world but in YOUR community? Now think hard, are you part of the problem or the solution? If you are doing NOTHING you are part of the problem. Want a few examples? Good cause I'm going to offer them anyway.

I don't like graffiti. Yes some building paintings are art murals, those are often paid for. Tagging on the other hand, we can argue about all day as a subjective form of art. I don't like it. I think tagging is defacing someones property. I don't come over to your house and draw on your walls, paint your t.v. screen or paint spray your computer. So who has the most opportunity to help my LOCAL community build business, remove graffiti and introduce me to other local business owners who may not be as geeky as I am? Here is where UA comes in:

I love technology, geeks, meeting geeks and non-geeks, talking about business and computers, making a difference, doing research and teaching people. I also think a lot of events don't add the kind of value I want them to add. This is why I've joined committees for all my favorite professional organization and if the events you go to mean ANYTHING to you, I recommend you do the same. Have an opinion and add some value. Complaining only goes so far, if you can help.. get off your ass. When Eric Jacobson approached me to be one of the co-founders of TCSMU, this is why I said YES. Some links to where you can volunteer:

  • Volunteer for MIMA (Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association) - The MIMA membership committee has some cool folks, just saying.
  • The Advertising Federation of Minnesota is pretty sweet, full of a variety of cool people. The communications and programs committees will offer you a deeper appreciation of the events.
  • Want to volunteer with TCSMU contact Eric Jacobson
  • Social Media Breakfast is great for social media beginners with aspirations of understanding how to leverage the space without being a guru wanna be, who says they are an expert. Yep, I went there. Plus the events are free and fill up.
  • I also like AMA, PRSA, AIGA, Toastmasters, and there are many others but I'm not as involved with the non-listed ones. You can find more events at TechDotMN.
Did I make my point? Did I miss anything? Get started. You want a baby step? You know that friend who doesn't understand technology but wants to... sit down with them and offer to show them the ropes, no strings attached. Keep in mind you can only help those who want help, you can't help someone who wont help themselves. Good luck and keep me posted.
