Do you bring real value to Social Media? | Guest Blogger - Joel Carlson

When you think of Social Media, and contributing to it like friends each bringing a different dish to make up a complete meal, what is your contribution to the meal? Is it a salad? Is it a side-dish? Is it a dessert? Is bringing a left-over really making a quality contribution to the meal?

A blog post that I read today from Neal Kielar (@AgencyBabylon) is a good reminder. ReTweets and Repeats of the same information, quotes or ideas can water down Social Media. So before just posting "I'm eating a ham sandwich" or "I'm watching cement dry" or even "When life give you lemons..." which has probably been Tweeted or posted thousands of times, think to yourself, "What kind of contribution is this going to make to the "meal" of Social Media?"

When you go over to a friends house, you don't expect nor do you even want the same things to happen as did the last time you were there, or even the first time you were there years ago do you? You want a new, refreshing and rewarding experience. Now that's not to say that some reminders from time to time are bad, reminiscing over old times can bring a good feeling to another person, but keeping things new, fresh and helpful are the key. Who wants to live like a scene from "Groundhog Day" over and over again? So do it right, keep Social Media interesting.
