Sponsoring a Race

Thank you to all my new and returning readers. This post and my previous are unlike my usual Social Media, Web 2.0 and how to design/program posts. I've decided to run a couple of races (read running races to learn more). The whole point of me running this 10 mile and duathalon (other then to get in shape) is to find a cure for cancer, blood cancers to be more specific. By raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, we are seeding research to find a cure for all cancers as most medical breakthroughs in the field of cancer research has come from blood cancer research (chemotherapy, radiation, many drugs).

The TC Marathon is next fall... Oct 4th to be specific.

So, here's the fundraiser: ( I got the idea from MDF) I'm raising money for each mile. It's going to work like a sponsorship. Each mile is worth $50 and if you want to have your company's logo on my shirt it's $500 for a small logo and $1000 for a large one. I'm running four races, so that's a lot of coverage (1 mile, 5k, 10 mile, and the duathalon- total of 40 miles of racing).

Rules: Donate $50 here: Click Here to Donate, AND tell me WHAT MILE and LINK to whatever you want (your blog, startup, cause). I'll publish it anywhere and everywhere I can (my blogs, fundraising pages, thank you emails, twitter- I have 4000 followers).

**To put this in perspective:

$50 = concert ticket or pair of shoes…

OR

$50 could mean…Funding for a family support group with trained facilitator, or registration for 1 person to be a bone marrow donor. Just to be clear, ALL the training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society..that money goes to help find a cure, all of it. In my last post I said if I win half would go to charity, that is IN ADDITION to the donations you are making now.

****I still encourage ANY amount of donation! Whether it's $4 to $1000 as a donation, and let me tell you, EACH AND EVERY ONE COUNTS!!!

Also, If you want to sponsor a mile, and can only donate $25, I'm willing to split up the miles.

THANK YOU!!

P.S. I can't do this without all of your help and support so in advance, thank you. Your support, encouragement, and donations make me get out of bed in the morning not just to run (which is not easy for me-- plus my legs kill from all this running), but to live each day to the fullest, and to hope that when I have children, they won't know what the word "cancer" even means. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you. I hope everyone will join meat the races!!!

Running Races

So some people know, some don't but I've made the executive decision (against my bodies better judgment) to get in shape this summer. To do that, I've decided to push myself to the max and actually sign up for a few things. By things I mean marathons. Don't worry, its only a half marathon, a 5k, a 1 mile, and a duathalon. It sounds like a lot, but I'm confident that whatever doesn't kill me... will only make me stronger? On the upside I've decided IF I win anything to donate half to charity and keep the other half for running/training next year.

So now I bet your wondering what I signed up for right? The Bloomington Iron Girl, which is a 2 mile run a 22 mile bike and another 2 mile run. The 1 mile, 5k and 10 mile are all part of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. As for training, I will be training with TEAM in Training, in exchange for training and support, I help raise money towards cures for blood cancers like leukemia -- the No. 1 disease killer of children -- lymphoma and myeloma.

So how much is this costing me?

Run With Me

Found this awesome post on Stretching on http://runwithme.tumblr.com

And Bend and Stretch!

Stretching is the deliberate lengthening of muscles in order to increase muscle flexibility and joint range of motion. Stretching activities are an important part of any exercise or rehabilitation program. They help warm the body up prior to activity thus decreasing the risk of injury as well as muscle soreness.
The benefits of stretching are many and have been proven through various studies over time. Stretching benefits people of all ages, and is intended for the young as well as the elderly population.

The Benefits of Stretching
According to the Mayo Clinic, the top five benefits of stretching include:
*Increased flexibility and joint range of motion:
Flexible muscles can improve your daily performance. Tasks such as lifting packages, bending to tie your shoes or hurrying to catch a bus become easier and less tiring. Flexibility tends to diminish as you get older, but you can regain and maintain it.
*Improved circulation:
Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles. Blood flowing to your muscles brings nourishment and gets rid of waste byproducts in the muscle tissue. Improved circulation can help shorten your recovery time if you've had any muscle injuries.
*Better posture:
Frequent stretching can help keep your muscles from getting tight, allowing you to maintain proper posture. Good posture can minimize discomfort and keep aches and pains at a minimum.
*Stress relief:
Stretching relaxes tight, tense muscles that often accompany stress.
*Enhanced coordination:
Maintaining the full range-of-motion through your joints keeps you in better balance. Coordination and balance will help keep you mobile and less prone to injury from falls, especially as you get older.

Stretch it out.
