Mahalo, unlike normal search engines that use bots, uses viewer advice and write ups (much like digg) to index all of it's site information. These different sites also vary in the number of visitors to their site. Google's audience reach and total number of visitors is obviously far greater than Mahalo's or Mamma.com. I don't know the exact numbers but another variable would be the number of searches carried out, and the data that these sites in tern receive from that data, followed by the number of hours visitors spend on their sites and in tern your site.
Each of these measurements generally give slightly different results, but with the same websites categorized.
