Plus if you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you can use your gadget as a nice remote. Add in an air express and you can stream your iTunes all around stereos around the house, again using your touch or phone as a remote.
So what are the downsides? Well, you can't surf the internet on an apple tv but you can watch podcasts, youtube, and stream video from your computer. You can hack it and use things like Boxee on it to get Hulu, but I'm afraid it might break mine, or maybe I'm too lazy to test it and then try fixing it? Also the apple tv doesn't have a very big hard drive, so instead why not buy a Mac mini? It has more memory, you can surf the internet, and hulu without any hacking needed.
Bonus? All of this is cheaper then buying one of the $3000 stereo/audio/video systems on top of buyin a television and more. If you hate Apple, well I would say these are all good reasons to reconsider, not that I'm a fan boy or anything.
