If you follow me on Twitter, I'm sure you know what a big fan I am of Paulo Coelho. His books are internationally acclaimed for being inspirational, well written, and thought provoking. My first book I read of his was given to me by my boyfriend, The Alchemist, to help me get through a bit of a rough patch were I needed some inspiration and guidance. I've always loved to read so when that book was finished, as well as the rest of my recent purchases, I went to the book store and immediately bough 6 or 7 more of Paulo Coelho's books. I've only recenlty finished 2 of them and started three more (I mean that literally -- I read multiple books at a time because different books have different tones, I need happy ones at different times then a learning book). The last month or so I've been attached to, "The Witch of Portbello" and "The Valkyries."
"The Valkyries" is a best seller about Paulo's own trifes with the world to discover himself, his guardian angel, and to over come self-doubt and exploration of humanity while introducing his own wife into the facinating world of enlightenment. Today in particular, after several months of stress, I decided to bring a book to work with me for lunch (the stress and work load have kept me from lunch breaks-- of my own choice of course).

Anyway page 59 say, "When climbing the mountain I forgot the flashlight, you probably noticed that I was back at the car for quite a while. (This is because) whenever I forget something on leaving the house, I feel that my guardian angel is in action, causing me to lose a few (precious) seconds-- and this short time interval may signify important things. It may allow me to avoid an accident, or cause me to run into someone I need to see. So after I get what I've forgotten, I always sit down and count to twenty. That way, the angel has time to take action. An angel uses many instruments." -- Gene, Page 59, "The Valkyries" by Paulo CoelhoThis struck a cord with me because I actually forgot two things on my way out of the house today. One just before walking out the door, and the other because I went up to get the first, and the second made me run all the way back in from the car. This morning I found a letter on our front step, a check I'd been waiting for, and we never use the front door. So I wouldn't have found it otherwise. I also passed two accidents this morning. Would I have been a part of them? I don't know, but I do believe in serendipity. So the next time you lose something remember this story.
