Being brave is when you are scared, but pull enough courage together to be able to do what needs to get done in spite of the situation. When failure is all around you, the economy is broken and you think all the odds are against you that is the moment where I dare you to push on.
Take the movie Coraline, that little girl and any young person in their place would be scared and probably justified to hide under their bed and do nothing. In the face of all odds the true test of our character is how we push forward and fight back. Do you have the gumption to follow your dreams, beat the odds, wake up every morning and follow your goals or are you just a talker? No offense, but 90% of you are just talkers. You love to watch the sport but don't have the motivation to train for it yourselves.
On the Minnov8 Gang (60) Podcast Graeme Thickins, Steve Borsch and Phil Wilson all talked about how Minnesotans have a lot to offer and all talk about wanting to compete with Silicon Valley but no one is willing to put their time or money where their mouths are. We all show up wanting to blindly follow or blindly lead. We don't have the angel investors backing the big ideas and when push comes to shove no one really wants to offer their talents towards collaboration. Some things are as simple as just following the old Nike slogan, Just DO IT. Other things either involve pulling our money together or meeting a few really rich backers willing to help with new start ups and then requiring those start ups to re-invest in the community.
What do you say, are you ready to put your money and time where your mouths are?

Hey there, I liked you honest post. Minneapolis/St Paul has an incredible brain trust and we could compete with Silicon Velley - but why don't we? Could the answer be as simple as "just do it" and getting over our inferiority complex? The Angel Investors are out there, even in flyover land. We need to be bold and everyone should watch the film "Coraline" to get inspired!
Being brave or courageous is something hard to master. It's like being organized or understand proper etiquette. You are not born inherently courageous or organized someone either makes fun of you for being messy, your mother teaches you how to use a vaccum, or you see someone who is sloppy and decide you don't want to grow up to be like them. Life maybe rough sometimes, but its not as complicated as we make it. Rules, etiquette and dreams are all things we dream and and decide to either settle not to have or to master and pursue. Investor relations is an issue even the valley is having a problem with, thanks to a down economy. Overcoming our struggles is a simple process: 1. Decide our company as a whole wants to either sink in quick sand together or support one another. Step 2. Decide what we want and create big ideas. Step 3. Stop outsourcing our work overseas. Every time we do that we are only hurting our economy while temporarily saving a buck or two.
