The student advertising summit kicked off this year as a success and ended with beers at Sally's. I met lots of wonderful students, as an SAS round table speaker, and wish I could have met more. Students that attended the Advertising Federation of Minnesota's Student Advertising Summit received breakfast, lunch, the opportunity to network with agency staff, get their portfolios reviewed, ask questions and then go on an agency tour.
To any students who might be reading this I recommend doing the following:
- Attend MIMA events while your still a student (MIMA is free to students)
- Attend AdFed2 and AdFed events so that you can network and meet people
- ALWAYS continue your learning. iTunes University or YouTube are two great freebies.
- READ, READ and then read some more. Blogs are a great way to get to know industry professionals and how they think. Comment thoughtfully and they may even notice you.
- Write your own blog. Write about questions you have, things your doing, what you are learning and back them up with facts. People will respect you for this and hey, it may even land you that dream job.
- Join social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin but keep it professional (any drinking photos should be made private or untagged.. better yet just steer clear of the camera + booz)
