Do you live in a comfort zone? A place where everything is safe, easy, non-demanding and comfortable. People can easily become creatures of habit, they go to the same coffee shop everyday, the same restaurant for lunch and the same store for clothes. It's worked for us this long we might think, why change now? Having some stability, a foundation in our lives is good. How about though mixing it up once an awhile?
Back in 1956 a building complex called Southdale opened up in Edina Minnesota (a suburb of Minneapolis). An Austrian immigrant named Victor Gruen designed the first fully enclosed shopping mall which would be anchored by large retail stores, and then have large corridors and enclosed park-like areas for walking and the gathering of people. With the weather climate in Minnesota during the winter months, this was a great idea. It was a NEW idea, and it expanded to other cities and areas all over the country.
Maybe we really enjoy the job that we have right now, could we though spice it up a bit? Maybe volunteer to take on a project idea that you had or that your boss has mentioned in the past. Making a slight change to your job could mean doing your job in a new way that's faster, more efficient or more creative. Does your business use social media yet? How about talking to you boss about it and see what they say? Maybe take some courses on it or read a book about it. You could even join a community group and learn from others who have experience in that field, as well as hear questions from new people like yourself who wonder where or how to start. You might even network with some people who can help you in the development of a whole new way of marketing your company.
Try something new. Challenge yourself and your company to bigger and brighter things!
